Academic Foundations of Christian Kindergarten Program

Redeemer is known for strong academics and age-appropriate critical thinking skills at every grade level. Kindergarten builds the early literacy, numeracy, science, and social-emotional foundations children need for long-term success.

Phonics and Reading: SuperKids Curriculum

Redeemer uses Zaner-Bloser SuperKids, a comprehensive early literacy curriculum grounded in evidence-based practices. Students engage in:

  • Systematic phonics instruction

  • Guided reading groups

  • Word Work

  • Writing practice

  • Read-to-Self and Read-to-Buddy

  • Listening centers

Each child is assessed at his or her reading level and progresses throughout the year using texts that apply the phonics rules they are learning. Activities support independent and collaborative literacy growth.

Writing and Handwriting

Handwriting is intentionally integrated throughout the day. Students practice writing during:

  • Morning work

  • Writer’s Workshop

  • Word Work Centers

  • SuperKids literacy lessons

  • Fine motor and thematic activities

Handwriting and early writing skills develop naturally within meaningful, developmentally appropriate tasks.

Math Foundations

Kindergarten math focuses on building strong early numeracy through hands-on exploration, manipulatives, visual models, and real-world problem-solving.

Students explore concepts such as:

  • Number sense and counting

  • Comparing quantities

  • Patterns and sorting

  • Simple equations and early addition/subtraction

  • Skip counting

  • Basic time concepts

Concepts are introduced, reinforced, and revisited throughout the year, helping students strengthen understanding and grow at their own pace. Activities build confidence and a joyful curiosity about how numbers work.

Science

Students explore the world through thematic, hands-on science units such as:

  • The five senses

  • Living and non-living things

  • Nocturnal animals

  • Seasons and weather

  • Nutrition and healthy bodies

  • Plants and insects

  • Dinosaurs and fossils

  • Dental health

Lessons use trade books and experiential learning to spark interest and build foundational scientific thinking.

Social Studies

Through literature and thematic studies, students learn about:

  • Family and community

  • School routines

  • Community helpers

  • Cultural awareness

These units help students understand their place in the world and build early social understanding.

A Faith-Filled Kindergarten Environment

Students learn foundational Bible stories and memory verses. They grow in understanding sin, forgiveness, Jesus’ sacrifice, and what it means to love and serve others.

Kindergarten Readiness: Helping Every Child Thrive

Redeemer teachers understand the wide range of readiness levels young learners bring into Kindergarten.

We support development in:

  • Early literacy and numeracy foundations

  • Fine motor skills

  • Classroom routines and transitions

  • Social confidence and collaboration

  • Emotional self-regulation

  • Independence and responsibility

Our gentle, whole-child approach ensures that each child grows in competence and confidence throughout the year.

What Critical Thinking Looks Like in Kindergarten

At Redeemer, critical thinking begins long before formal logic problems or upper-grade writing assignments. In Kindergarten, children learn to think deeply by making connections, asking questions, solving problems in steps, and explaining their ideas out loud. Whether they are predicting what will happen in a science experiment, choosing the right manipulatives for a math task, comparing story characters, or working together to build a stable block tower, students are practicing early reasoning skills every day. These age-appropriate thinking habits lay the foundation for strong academic growth and confident problem-solving in the years ahead.

Tuition, Safety, and Campus Experience

Redeemer is a private Christian school supported in partnership with Redeemer Lutheran Church, which helps keep tuition more accessible for families. We also participate in School Choice: Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA), allowing eligible families to receive school-choice funding that can be applied toward tuition.

Student safety is a top priority. The campus is supported by trained on-site security guards, keypad-gated entries, locked doors during the school day, and monitored cameras to create a secure, welcoming environment where children can learn and play.

Students also enjoy playgrounds, gardens, a full gymnasium, and a variety of engaging movement-based learning spaces.
